TBK Travels -Shopping in Bahrain

When I lived in Bahrain I had so many funny experiences that I made a note and thought I must write a Blog about that one day! This one is a collection of funny experiences shopping in Bahrain.

In Bahrain they decided to phase out plastic bags in the supermarket- great move as the bag packers have been taught to put different items in different bags ( like meat, dairy, eggs, cleaning products, so its easy to get home and find you have 20 bags for 30 products! They started selling reusable bags but obviously did not tell the bag packers this!

So when I went to buy 2 reusable bags to put all my shopping in he put them in a plastic bag in the trolley and carried on putting my shopping in plastic bags.

My second experience was with a cool bag which we use to take the shopping to the car and then home as its 50 degrees in the summer in Bahrain.  I gave the packer my cool bag and the two other reusable bags for everything else and when I get home this is what I find in my cool bag.

In my cool bag was washing up liquid, Ryvita and some cans and jars as well as
                                    some chicken breasts and yogurt!

I frantically searched the other bags for the frozen foods and found melted pizza , ice cream, and sweetcorn slush in a plastic bag!

My third story was from a garden centre / DIY store called Manazel

I wanted some Trellis for my garden to grow some plants up the wall:

Trellis on the wall behind me

This was the conversation with a member of their staff:

"Do you have any Trellis?"

"What?"

"Trellis?"

"What's that?"

"The stuff in the garden on the wall for the plants to grow up "

( Neil in mask mimes putting trellis on the wall, the plant growing up etc.)

His face brightens

"Oh, you mean the stuff made of wood and you put it on the all and grow plants up it?"

"Yes, that's it!"

Pause, way too long

"Do you have any trellis?"

Wait for it

No scrolling

"No, we are out of stock!"

"Ok do you have a wall?"

"What type of wall?"

"An empty one!"

"Why??"

"So I can bang my head against it!!"

That's shopping in Bahrain!
