The highlight of my trip to Kerala was my 24 hours on a houseboat. While my boat was not quite as luxurious as the one Vlogger Khalid Almeria from UAE was given I had a staff of 3 at my disposal ( Captain, Chef and GCSA!) . As we headed off at 12 noon it was so peaceful having lunch served on the deck. They had assumed I was vegetarian and bought some wonderful vegetarian dishes but when they found out ate meat they bought some meat as well! Good job I did not have to go anywhere and could read and sleep as the boat chugged along!
We did stop along the way to see a church and buy some fresh fish and beer for dinner ( this was back in 2013 when I still drank alcohol).
The best part was watching the other boats passing and the boys going to and from school on the banks of the backwater, and the people waving as we went by.
I love people watching and having to interact with people every day in my job I love just sitting quietly and observing as the world passes me by on vacation. That is why I always stay by the sea and go on a boat trip.
The next day, after breakfast at our mooring we set course back to Alleppey and then my driver returned to take me to Cochin, the capital, and my flight back to Bahrain. It was a wonderful weeks vacation in the South of Kerala and I would highly recommend it.
My thanks to Sajid , Shji, and all my Keralite colleagues at Bapco, for the list of places to see , and to the travel agents for arranging it all - can you remember their name? Remember the ladies underwear! Yes its Chennai PanNICKER travel!
Luckily I got a great shot of the sunset on my night on the houseboat and had it mounted on canvas as a reminder of my wonderful trip to Kerala.
