If you read my earlier Blog:
"There's lots of fun going on in St Vicente in the lead up to Christmas...."
you would know that "Paskuhan sa Alimanguan" took place from 11- 13 December at Barangay Alimanguan in Palawan. The local volunteer groups there spent many hours planning a variety of events over the three days to "Imbibe the spirit of Christmas among their constituents in the Barangay by providing social services that will give a positive impact to their well-being".
If you missed my earlier blog you can read more about this event here:
As a platinum sponsor of the event I have been closely following it's progress from Bahrain through their Facebook page. I have also had regular updates from one of the organisers, Dionefel, of the Alimanguan San Vicente Skimmers and their wonderful treasurer Jack , age 18. Finally I chatted to Joshua, a 17 year old contestant in the Tiktok video competition.
So this was the programme for the three days:
I am delighted to say, thanks to their meticulous planning and checking the minutiae of detail , everything ran according to schedule.
An amazing 84 people took part in the first event, the beach clean up, and after the safety briefing set off down the beach collecting waste. the waste was then bought back, weighed and loaded into a lorry.
Dionefel tells me that they collected 124 kg of waste from the beach- a great start to the three days of fun in the sun.
The San Vic Surf group offered free lessons to the locals on 11th December and it looks from their Facebook page that they had a lot of fun.
Next year , when I move to Palawan ,as well as doing my PADI diving qualification again, and participating in their Beach clean ups I hope to learn to surf at the San Vic Surf camp and how to be a Skimmer with the Alimanguan San Vicente Skimmers!
Next year this will be me , learning to surf on the 14km white sand beach at St Vicente! Charot!
The first day of activities closed with the Christmas Dance showdown which I was able to watch on line by a live feed and I have to say I totally agreed with the judges decision.
The contestants get ready in their festive costumes- the girls, the kids and the boys!
The boys came third, the cute kids were second but the girls stole the show and won the competition!
Special thanks to the judges, and all the contestants for their hours of practice, making costumes, and the organisers for planning everything so well. It was great to hear everyone cheering on the dancers on the night!
On Saturday the judges deliberated over the very different entrants to the TikTok video competition which were all posted on the Paskuhan sa Alimanguan Facebook page. Once again i could see a lot of thought had gone into the videos and clearly there are some expert Tiktok content creators in Alimanguan. My personal favourite was gwapo sariwa 17 yr old Joshua who went through a fast series of clothes changes ending up topless with the slogan "Merry Christmas!"
Well done Joshua. Dionefel would not give me advance notice of who won as that will be announced on the final day tomorrow- so you will have to check out their Facebook page!
Joshua Espadilla with his festive Facebook message "I LOVE YOU ALL 💓🥺"
Today they have the mobile photography competition and the poster competition/ I loved the fact that the entrants all had to draw their posters under the watchful gaze of the judges. Like so many other things about this festival the poster theme was very topical- Front-liners . The entrants, just like the Tiktok entrants, interpreted this very differently with some focusing on the medical teams and my second favourite had teachers and hotel staff in the poster as well. My favourite entry captured the fact that it was a Global Pandemic and the front- liners were superheroes. Once again the winners will be declares at the awarding tomorrow. Here is a quick display of my favourites:
I just received all the results today so congratulations to all the winners:
Once again congratulations to all the groups involved in putting this amazing three days of Christmas activities together, special thanks to all the other sponsors and the local government bodies. Most of all congratulations to all the participants in all the competitions
May I end by wishing you all
Maligayang Pasko - Merry Christmas
Manigong
Bagong Taon - Happy New Year
