For the second part of my staycation in Bahrain I went up in the world, literally, to a beautiful new apartment on the 20 th floor of a 23-story building in Juffair, Bahrain. From the balcony I had a great view of the American Naval base and the many hotels and skyscrapers in the area. Juffair is built entirely on reclaimed land since 1965. The archive photo shows when the Gulf Hotel was at the waters edge back then. My apartment consisted of a kitchen with dishwasher (at home my dishwasher was Jake my houseboy, on a Friday!), 2 toilets (CR) (I only have one at home) , lovely lounge with sliding glass doors onto the balcony and a small dining table.
Going up in the world |
I
moved there on a Thursday evening and my friend Joshua, who worked a few doors
away came to greet me at 6 pm with a traditional Pinoy chicken Adobo , which we
ate together. Whilst the apartment comes with toiletries, towels, bedding,
kitchen utensils etc. there were no slippers and the stone floors were cold, so
Joshua returned the next day with two pairs of Swiss Bell Hotel Residences
slippers! ( It is ok to put that as he has left Bahrain now!!)
I
decided to continue with my walking programme and ended up going further than I
thought when I went out for food on my first Friday morning at The Spot. I got lost and could not find my way back to the apartment. In my defense they all look the
same! In the afternoon my lovely houseboys, Jake and Corleen arrived with my
clean clothes and some food from my freezer at home and then we cooked and
shared two Pizzas!
Looking towards the Grand Mosque |
On
the Saturday I had a massage and then realised it was too hot to walk by the
sea as planed at noon. Instead I went and had a sleep before walking to the Grand
Mosque as the sun set. It is a truly magnificent building which I visited many
years ago with my then houseboy , Patrick, and I am looking forward to going back
for a final Tour at Eid . I will write about that in another blog as I have
booked a second staycation at the Al Saffir Hotel in Juffair!
Photo shoot for the new blog footers |
On
day 11 of my staycation I headed early to Arad bay after seeing some great
photos from a friend who runs there every day at 4 am. It’s a 3km walk around a
tidal bay with Mangroves. A lot of migratory and local birds come to feed
there. The only problem is there are so many signs telling you what you cannot
do ( No smoking, no running on the grass or
the wall, no driving, no fishing, no swimming and so on!) .
After a little rest at home and lunch with Jake we headed out to another favourite spot for a walk at sunset at Seef (Karabad) beach. I managed to get the amazing shot below with my little Sony camera as the sun set and the kids played on the beach.

As
the sun sets on another day of my staycation in Bahrain I will sign out and
