TBK travels- Chester goes to Claucar beach

Chester meets the resident black dog at Claucar beach ( they have a white cat too!)

If you do not know already Chester and I are compiling an A- Z of the best beaches in Palawan. We started with Alimanguan and then went to BM beach and now we made it to Claucar beach, suggested by Kevin.

It's a 90 minute drive along the East coast of Palawan towards Roxas. It's a good road, mostly single carriageway , and very pretty once you leave Puerto, with vies of the forest and mountains and then you drop down to the coast. I forgot to buy sweets and snacks ( an essential ingredient of any Palaweno road trip) so we stopped at a little café I use just past Astoria Palawan on the left ( an A shaped building opposite the school). I love their coffee mugs and their little Cafetiere of freshly brewed coffee. They also do snacks to go in the adjoining shop so I had a pork lumpia, cashew nuts, cookies peanut brittle, some sweets, a small coca cola and my coffee.

Our Merienda ( snacks) en route

Then I realised I was short of cash so I counted out 140 pesos in coins and then added some notes. I hate carrying the coins here so keep them in my Ocean bag and use them for buying water, Pandesal and Merienda! As we drove off, refreshed, I realised we were low on fuel but I only had 1000 peso left! Normally its 2000 pesos to fill the tank. However that was enough to get us there and back and I will go to the ATM tomorrow as I need to pay Joven.

I have been to this place several times and I love their coffee mugs!

Suitably refreshed, and having visited their CR, we gave Chester some water and headed off for fuel and eventually found the  turn off to the beach which is not signposted. After a short drive between some buildings down a narrow track there is a car parking place and then a little further down the path a place for mopeds. Luckily I had done some research on you tube and knew there were a lot of steps down to the beach. In the video a big family were struggling with iceboxes, food, water containers etc. So I just carried my camera and got some shots of Chester edging his way down to the sea!

Chester edges his way down the steep steps to the beach

The path is very pretty but what looks like a stair rail is plastic piping which gives way when you grab it. Not an ideal route for a 119 kg Severely Obese Diabetic with a hip replacement being pulled by an excited 30kg Labrador!

"Good for my Cardio" was how Kevin described it.

Chester was soon racing up and down getting wet

The staff at the bottom gave us a warm welcome and Chester went swimming. The beach is very stony and the water is deep and I think it was high tide when we visited. Lots of splashing waves on the rocks.

The view from cottage 7 looking back at the other cottages

The site consists of 7 cottages, each of which has a BBQ, seating for 6 and a table. As I was the only person there he only charged me the 20 peso entrance fee and allowed me to visit all the cottages to get different angles for my photos. There is also a central seating area ( but they were not serving food or drink today) , CR, and some rooms to stay overnight in right by the sea.

The whole site looks as if it has been repainted in Blue and yellow and there are lots of plants everywhere.

There was a set of rules on display but it was in Tagalog!

At the back right you can see the main Puerto to Roxas road where there is a gap on the trees. I have passed this beach many times but did not know how to get down to it before!

The central eating area, ideal for big groups

Cottages 1- 5 are on the main beach and cottages 6-7 are on the headland - up another set of steps. There is another set of steps from cottage 7 back to the car park but they looked very steep and unsuitable so we returned the way we came.

Once we had explored as much as we could we headed back up the stairs. I did not have any energy or free hands to take photos on the way up so I will use one I took on the way down. The whole site is well maintained with lots of pretty flowers.

The steps to the beach- be warned - its a long way and worse coming back up

Having helped pull me up the stairs Chester decided it was time for a new driver and so when I opened the car door he jumped in...

   TBK has a new driver!

Eventually I managed to get him in the back where he laid down and slept all the way back to Puerto while I finished our snacks! By the time we got home it was 2 pm and I was starving hungry and very thirsty so had some more of the Leg of Lamb I cooked for Noel and Frythy on Monday and a couple of Litres of sparkling water while writing this blog. Chester and I then went upstairs at 3 pm for our afternoon nap and then had Tuna rice for dinner.

You can see the vlog by clicking on the picture below. Excuse the watermark- I am still waiting for my credit card so I can pay my subscription for the video editing software. I also left the camera case in the car so the wind gets a bit noisy at one point!

Hope you enjoyed the Vlog and Blog and keep checking back to see Chester's next vlogs!

Our next beach outing is to another C - Canete beach, which Frythy found so I will take Noel and Fry when they do not have school or Volleyball matches.
