Back in 2021, 20 days before I retired from Bapco on 14.2.21, I displayed this poster on my office wall. It attracted much interest and so here is the back story behind it:
"Bato ni Ningning is an iconic rock on top of a hill found in Barangay Sto. Niño in San Vicente, Palawan. The name was coined from a TV show featuring a character named “Ningning” and how this area with the huge boulder became her playground"

I took the photo of the "Iconic Rock star of San Vicente" back ion 2020 when I was staying at the Turublien Long Beach Inn and Bar on long beach with my friend Kuya Ran. He suggested we go up to the viewpoint and we set off in my Toyota Wigo hire car. Whilst the road starts off flat it soon becomes steep, muddy and extremely dangerous to drive up in a car!
The Alimanguan highway (yes that is its real name) that leads to the track up to the viewpoint.
These photos were taken this trip when Chester and I walked up the hill
He jumped into some foliage under a tree in the shade and stayed there. There was a deep ditch under the foliage so I could not easily get him out and continued up the hill alone. I remembered that you had to pay (25 pesos) to visit the site and that they sold water and snacks, so I had taken my wallet. However, I omitted to check what notes I had in my wallet and, as I had just been to an ATM, it was all 1000-peso notes, and the lady had no change! I just had enough for a much-needed bottle of water for me and one for Chester.
Having spent 12 years in the flat sandy dessert of the Middle East I love the hills and greenery of Palawan. I decided to give up on my attempt to climb the rock and headed back down the path to see how Chester was. He was happy to see me and drank the water then I lifted him out of the ditch just as some birds landed on the path. He raced off after them! At the bottom of the car the water I had left in his bowl had gone but I had another bottle in the car which he lapped up before having another rest in the shade of a tree.
Property giant Megaworld is developing 462 hectares of beachfront and inland properties in San Vicente, Palawan into an ‘eco-tourism township’, as the company remains optimistic on the fast recovery of the country’s tourism industry after the pandemic.
To be named Paragua Coastown, this 27th Megaworld township will feature some of the most beautiful beaches along the coastline of San Vicente, including Port Barton, one of the most famous tourist attractions of the town known for its 22 small islands.
