TBK cooks - Mango sticky rice

Mango sticky rice at the Charm Thai Restaurant at the Crowne Plaza OCEC, Muscat, Oman

One of my favourite hobbies while I was waiting 13 months for the Philippines to reopen its borders to tourists was to eat. One of the things I most liked eating was Mango sticky rice! I had it in Oman when I stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Muscat where they had an award-winning Thai restaurant called Charm Thai ( Charm Thai Restaurant, Omanon the ground floor. I used to have a Thai massage in their spa and then sit in the sun outside and eat a Thai salad and then Mango Sticky Rice.

In Bahrain they had a food festival next to the FLY residences and at the Thai Seafood restaurant stall Corleen and I had Mango sticky rice!

When I stayed at Nooh Tower in Hidd, Bahrain I regularly went to the Thai Seafood Restaurant at Bussatein with Rew, Corleen and Anis and we would always end the meal with Mango Sticky Rice.

Then I went to the Global Village in Dubai with Thang and guess what they were serving on a replica of the Train Market? Yes, Mango Sticky rice. You can see our night at the Global Village on our You Tube channel by clicking this link

Then finally I arrive in the Philippines and start cooking Filipino food when I get my shipment of my worldly goods from Bahrain. In this recipe book guess what I find?

I bought this recipe book in 2013 when I first visited Palawan

In the recipe book was this recipe for Glutinous rice with Mango!

I tried it and it was so easy to make that I made it again the next week and filmed it for a Vlog which you can see below:

The third Vlog I edited- Mango Sticky Rice

If you want to try and make it yourself, you will need:

and as they say in the Philippines, this is the Procedure:

Easy eh! Just remember to lower the heat and stir regularly, particularly at the bottom or the rice will burn. Uncle Roger would also like us to wash the rice first!

For those who have not heard of Uncle Roger you must watch this video:

Uncle Roger DISGUSTED by this Egg Fried Rice Video (BBC Food)

There are loads more but that is still my favourite!

My mangoes were very over ripe, so I was not able to present it as beautifully as all the examples above, but it still tasted as good!

My Mango sticky rice which I shared with Jhoanna, Elay and Jovan

Elay shared hers with the cat, but everyone else liked it!

I hope you enjoyed it much as I did and as usual, please let me have your feedback on the Blog and Vlog.

We are almost up to date with our vlogs now- just have some to film in Sabang from 15 to 19 September for a couple of special celebrations and the second part of the tour of Chester's house to edit. If you have a topic, you would like me to do a vlog about, please let me know.

On the Blog front I have about 5 in draft and another 30 or so I did not advertise but wrote while I was waiting for my visa to come to the Philippines. So, if there is a place you want me to write about, or you want to write about (Gerda, Phil, Carl) just let me know. Special thanks to my good friend in Bahrain, Mr Vincent Kelly who gave me lots of material for future blogs on the life of a retiree in Palawan earlier today.

Well, my eyes are going form editing vlogs and typing blogs since 3 am when Chester (the dawg) woke me up! Time to sign off!

As usual Ingats and kita kits
