TBK Travels to the Philippines, Part nine - My first trip to Honda Bay in 2013

Our boat for the Honda Bay trip in 2013

One of my favourite ever boat trips was in Honda bay in 2013. In fact I loved it so much I came back to Palawan to do it again in 2019. I hate being crowded in on a boat , bus or airplane . I also hate organized tours where you have 15 minutes here and 10 minutes there and you have to stick with the guide. One of the joys of working in the Middle East was that we were very well paid, without tax, free fuel and house, and long holidays. So I could afford a little luxury on vacation ( to make up for the heat, sand, lack of alcohol, pork and sex in Bahrain!)

Back in 2013 when I was slim and tanned

So when Drew emailed me the prices for public tour vs private tour I opted for the latter. We had a van pick up from the Microtel by his friend and the friends brother and then drove to the departure point, Honda bay wharf. Then we selected our boat, told them where we wanted to go and set sail!

We choose Luli, Pambato reef, Star fish and Cowrie island ( Drew's memory is far better than mine). My favourite was Star Fish island -where there was a long sandy bar and loads of starfish in the crystal clear sea.

Where are those Starfish?

It says there are Starfish?

After a short walk down the hot sandy beach we found the Starfish - well Drew did, and he named him Patrick!

Another favourite part of that first trip was feeding the fish. We had taken a loaf of stale bread from the hotel and then we got onto a floating platform which was like a hollow square. As we sat, dangling our legs in the water,  the fishes surfaced , mouths open, in the middle of the square waiting to be fed. Here, let me demonstrate…..

Of course when the British Kabayan goes on vacation there is always fresh fish and it does not get fresher than the fish on the Honda Bay trip! We chose what we wanted from the catch of the day on display.

Then they cooked it to order and we ate it at a cottage on the beach ( that's a Filipino cottage. It has a whole different meaning in English gay slang!)

Yes, of course , there was Halo Halo as well!

All in all it was a fabulous day out , organized by Drew, and I am looked forward to repeating it again in 2019

Until then this is the British Kabayan signing out from Sabang on the first day of the new decade
