TBK asks which would you prefer?

Palawan continues to win awards around the world as the "most desirable island". They praise the sparkling waters and white sand beaches. The problem is such awards make the beaches even more crowded! I saw the picture below of the beach at El Nido this week:

Thankfully on the west coast of Palawan, about an hours drive from Puerto, are some beautiful white sand beaches that are deserted- even at the weekend. This week Chester and I went back to Tagkawayan. The last time we were there was in March to do the photo shoot for our April Calendar.

You can read about Chester's Birthday party at Tagkawayan by clicking the link below:

The Vlog is available here:

To get there from Puerto takes about an hour taking the Highway North and turning off as if you were going to Nagtoban or Tala but then immediately after the school you turn left. Its a concrete road all the way ( apart from the last few hundred metres onto the beach) although its very bendy and the road goes up and down. There are lots of animals and people and the road os narrow so drive with care.

For some reason we did not get charged this time- normally there is a parking fee and then a fee for the cottages which each have a BBQ. A man came along selling ice creams and there are a couple of Sari sari shops just before you reach the parking area ( by the bridges over the river). There is also a surfing place but today we did not see any surfers. We walked to one end of the beach, and Chester paddled, swam and as there was no one else there I let him off his lead so he could run about which he loved.

In total we did 6,720 steps- we walked to one end of the beach and back, had some water, and then walked to the other end and back

We arrived around 9 am on a Saturday and the place was deserted and there was not a cloud in the sky

As we were leaving I took photos of their new signage and decorations

The staff have been working hard to make it picture perfect

I was not sure if the swing would hold my weight!

Chester loved racing around when I took his lead off!

By the time we returned to the car park there were a few more people there and a guy pulled up selling ice creams- perfect timing for an ice cream! I decided to put on some sun tan lotion as it was 31 degrees and I gave Chester some water which he lapped up. When I checked my phone we had only done 3000 steps so we headed off to the other end of the beach ( where you do not have to pay to park and there were a few more people in the sea and eating lunch under the trees. Chester also found some other dogs to play with but this time I kept him on the lead.

Around the Philippines you will see people on motorbikes with side cars selling all sorts of things. This guy had ice cream ( and they were all frozen solid unlike the sari sari store near my house) but they also sell hot bread rolls ( Pandesal), Balut , and some will cook food for you !

After Chester has run around for a while he loves to lie down in the sea to cool off!

Then a big wave comes and swamps him and he has a good shake

By the time we got back to the car we were both exhausted

We headed back to the National Highway and towards Puerto but by then it was 1 pm so we stopped at our favourite Golden hour Cafe for Meryenda ( Blueberry Cheesecake and pink lemonade) . A group of young ladies walked past and said "Hello Chester, oh Hello Mr Neil". They said they had just been doing community service. I wracked my brains for the rest of the journey home but still cannot work out who they were!

We stopped for fuel near my house and all the staff came to say hello to Chester who was sticking his head out of the window! They have a puppy in the office at Caltex and one of the ladies there always carries him to the car to see Chester. He certainly is becoming a very famous dog in Palawan.

We arrived back at 1.30 pm and I reheated the Coq au vin I had prepared before we left. I was so hungry after all our walking. Then we had a little nap until Chester's dinner time at 4 pm.

I hope you enjoyed reading about Chester's day out at the beach. Tomorrow we will be at home as Frythy and Noel are coming and we have made them Chermoula Lamb and Couscous with chick peas. We also will be filming our December you tube vlog for our 2023 Recipe book- a very festive Frozen fruit Salad.

I hope you have a great weekend wherever you are.
